For rewards programs I just give them a bogus number.  There are known lists of numbers that always ring busy.  I just keep those in a note on my phone.  I only use Sudo numbers for situations where I might actually want to receive a call.

For me, privacy first.  I always decline to provide a phone number by just saying, "No thanks" when asked to provide one for non essential purposes.

If they insist, just reply again with a polite but firm "No" and 99% of the time it's over and done with.  Reusing even a burner number from MySudo at enough locations will provide aggregate data that can be bought and sold, compiled and linked back to the same person based on concurrent geotagged activity, linked credit or debit cards, or even MAC addresses of mobile devices you carry with you into various retail stores.
