Problems getting started using Graphene

I am trying to setup the app and I get this error when i try to create my first sudo:

 "Oops! something went wrong. Please check you connection and try again. Contact support..."

I am connected to the internet via wifi. I have no SIM in.  Running a Pixel 7 with Graphene.
